On behalf of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Security, Ms. Tapanidou Hara, Head of the Department of Family and Child Welfare Services, attended and read Ministry’s Director General, Mr. Andreas Assiotis welcome letter. Ms. Tapanidou made reference to the effort made by the Ministry to protect the rights of all unaccompanied minors, arriving in Cyprus, a number which has increased in recent years. At the same time she stressed the long and fruitful cooperation between the Social Welfare Services and the "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center. Last but not least Ms. Tapanidou pointed out that NGOs and Ministry should intensify their efforts, so that each child can continue dreaming of its life. .
Apart from Ms. Tapanidou, welcome speeches were addressed by Ms. Lysiane André, President of the International Organisation “Terre des Hommes” International Federation and Mr. Antonis Stylianou member of the Senior Advisory Board Member of "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center. Ms. André, after thanking "Hope For Children" for hosting the campaign, declared that Europe is still scared and does not have the necessary skills to manage the ever-increasing migration flows. As she pointed out the only way to allow things to be improved in the Old Continent is education. Education is the key to combat ignorance, with the last one being able to bring very negative results, on that sensitive issue of migrants and children "On the move".
Mr. Antonis Stylianou said that the main objective of "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center is echoing the children voices and needs. As he declared, we must remember, that 50 million children are now 'On the move', with each one of them calling us to respect their rights and we have to do it.
