"Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center is announcing the commencement of the project titled "Social Skills Development Training" which is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and 'Integration Fund of the European Funds Unit, of the Ministry of Interior. "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center is the Final Beneficiary of the project, with the partner being the Nicosia Municipality Multifunctional Foundation.
The project aims to socially integrate of third-country nationals residing in Cyprus whilst developing social skills which will enhance their prospects of enhanced social integration in the host country and the European Union, aiming to prevent delinquency and radicalization.
Up to now more than 100 people have attended the trainings, both adults and minors, and the thematic involve issues such as racism and acceptance of diversity, the status of women in European societies and gender equality, adaptiveness and the possibility of change through loss, ways of communication in a social environment, whilst aiming to inform and raise awareness in participants on the aspects of social life in Cyprus and the European Union.
The training sessions include presentations and experiential workshops and will be instructed by specially trained facilitators of ''Hope For Children'' CRC Policy Center and of the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Centre with the assistance of interpreters.
In the sessions, non-formal learning methods were used, so the participants had the opportunity to more easily digest the information provided by each thematic session. Using experiential workshops combined with presentations, participants managed to link their own personal experiences to the subject that each training session had.
At the end of each meeting, the trainers were giving time to the participants to reflect on what has been discussed, as well as the emotions that may have been caused, as some of the topics discussed were often emotionally charged. Below is a comment, which reflects the participants' evolution throughout the project.
"Now I know what I'm going through and since I know, I can handle it. I know I have already found the right ways to overcome the loss of the people that are close to me, I just could not really tell until now. I also know that now I'm not alone! Thank you”.
