Dr. Emma Mesikämmen

Director of Research & Development Division

Prior to starting at “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, Dr. Emma Mesikämmen worked in the higher education sector as a teacher, researcher and administrator. Emma holds a PhD in Media Studies from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and has strong knowledge of research practice through both her own research and previous employment as a lecturer and tutor at Australian universities teaching research methods and processes to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also holds a Masters degree in Journalism (incorporating Bachelors degree) from the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, with minor subjects in social and public policy, Finnish language, and English literature.  

 

Before stepping into the role of Director of R&D, Emma worked as a Project Officer in the R&D division.

 

Emma is passionate about social justice issues, and her academic research has focused on exploring power relations in media discourse and the role the media play in social change in relation to Australia’s First Nations peoples as well environmental issues. Emma is driven to utilise research to bring about social change for the benefit of marginalised or vulnerable groups.
